The Lac la Hache Historical Society (LLHHS) was formed in 1996 by a dedicated group of individuals interested in preserving and restoring one of the few remaining heritage sites in the Cariboo, the Felker Homestead.
Originally it was located along both sides of Highway 97 at Mile 118, but once plans were in place to widen the highway, the barn and bunkhouse had to be moved and relocated.
The Lac la Hache Community Club donated the relocation site and wholeheartedly supported the project.
The current stage called for restoration of the old log barn and has been funded in part by Heritage BC through the Heritage Legacy Fund. Contractor Pat Melanson has completed the current stage of restoration to the old log barn.
The LLHHS welcomes new members with an interest in local history. For more information, call Judy at 250-396-7298 or Marilyn at 250-706-2834.
They will also be looking for volunteers at the Garlic Festival to help them at the lunch wagon or with other aspects of the Felker Homestead Project.
Festival grounds rentals
Has anyone been wondering what all the activity that has been going on at the Festival Grounds is all about?
The Festival Grounds were rented out for approximately one-month.
They are available for rent for group functions, such as family reunions and picnics. Bookings can be arranged through Jeanette 250-395-1151.
Water tank installed
Greeny Lake Volunteer Fire Department fire chief reports a very quiet season thus far giving firefighters time for further education and practice time.
Fire chief Ken Gisby says two 12,000-gallon water tanks have been purchased and delivered on site. One tank has already been installed underground, filled with water and is fully operational.
