Doyle Beek walked away from the Deka Lake & District Volunteer Fire Department’s 31st Annual Ice-fishing Derby with a prize for reeling in the largest kokanee that weighed in at one pound two ounces.

It was too cold for even the fish at Deka Lake & District Volunteer Fire Department's (DLDVFD) 31st annual Ice-Fishing Derby, Feb. 8.

Of five kokanee caught, first prize and the Dennis Watt Memorial Trophy went to Doyle Beek's 1 lb. 2 oz. catch. A Higgins Lake resident, Watt passed away in 2003, but is fondly remembered as a staunch supporter of DLDVFD.

Sharon Chislett and Gerry Chamberlain kokanee placed second and third respectively.

Two rainbow trout comprised Roy Nichol's 1 lb. 9 oz. catch, and Daryl Silverton's lake trout numbered five. Prizes went to Fred Streleoff's 12 lb. 1 oz. fish, followed by Derek Bendig, and a tie between Wayne Vanderhoek and Ted Bell.

DLDVFD sincerely appreciates the public's support.
