Dorothy Jean Munroe, 46, and her husband, Tom Hughes will be paying off their mortgage, getting rid of a few bills and putting away some money for their two sons' education after winning $500,000 on
the Lotto Max Extra.
The 100 Mile House couple matched 4/4 numbers on the
Oct. 21 Extra draw to win the top prize.
The ticket was a free play from another ticket bought by Hughes for a previous draw, but the couple put out the
extra $1 to buy the Extra.
Munroe validated the winning ticket at Save-On-Foods in 100 Mile House and when she got the good news, didn't know what to do, so she sat in her car in the parking lot for one hour, trying to
reach Hughes, who works in the bush, by cell phone.
It was five hours before he was in cell range and she says he couldn't believe they'd won when she told him.
