The Horse Lake Community Farm Co-Op is ready to host Seedy Saturday on April 13.

The event brings those who have an interest in gardening and farming together to exchange seeds and gardening tips. As in previous years, it will be held at the Creekside Seniors Centre from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event will feature seed sales, exchange, information on gardening and food security, as well as a homemade lunch, a garage sale and a silent auction.

Rod Hennecker is one of the main organizers behind the event, and he says that the event is usually for gardeners and farmers who in his words, “share the knowledge, and in some cases, sell seeds for different products, plants.”

Hennecker says that those gardeners and farmers help those who want an alternative to big companies.

People who are scheduled to be in the event include representatives from Williams Lake, who will be engaging in an information session with attendees of Seedy Saturday.

“They will be talking about the food hub in Williams Lake,” said Hennecker about the session.

Hennecker says that he cannot really tell what the homemade lunch will be, as they are working on the menu.

“There will be a volunteer chef that will coordinate things, it will be again this year, and it will be a good nutritious meal - a hot meal.”

As for the silent auction, Hennecker says it will contain donated items. Some of those items in the past have included pieces of art.

Hennecker says that people from all across the Cariboo and beyond usually attend the event.

The Horse Lake Community Farm Co-Op, is a “group of farmers, concerned citizens and healthy eaters” who have ownership over 133 acres of “heritage farm property” and have hosted rustic retreats, agricultural workshops, as well as other educational and fundraising events.
