Cool, damp Cariboo spring weather didn’t deter more than 120 children from going to the First Annual Community Easter Egg Hunt at the South Cariboo Rec. Centre in 100 Mile House on March 27.

The event, hosted by Canlan Ice Sports and the 100 Mile House Free Press, was a great success, says organizer and Free Press publisher Martina Dopf.

“It was a lot of fun seeing all the children’s smiling faces.”

The Easter Bunny was hopping around visiting and entertaining the children of all ages and the volunteer face-painters were also kept very busy.

Overall, Dopf says she feels it went very well, and the children attending had a great time, but there is room for improvement to make this annual event bigger and better next year, with more goodies and prizes.

It went fantastic, says Regency Chrysler’s sales manager Brad Shorter. He attended to hand out prizes and help where was needed.

Shorter says he was overwhelmed with the turnout and the enthusiasm of everyone there.

“It was exceptional,” he says, adding he wasn’t expecting that many children to attend considering the weather.

Noting he was happy to be able to donate a couple of bicycles as prizes on behalf of the company, Shorter says he is looking forward to continuing to support the event in the future.

100 Mile House Lions Club spokesperson Dave Simkins says they handed out about 120 hotdogs free to the children under 12 years old and sold a few to the adults.

Hotdog buns were donated by Save-on-Foods, and the Lions Club donated the wieners and juice boxes.

It’s for the children, Simkins says, adding the Lions Club will be part of the event again next year.

The Easter Egg Hunt was followed by free public skating, which was sponsored by Country Prime Meats.

Dopf says she was very happy with how the whole event turned out, and would like to send out a big thank-you to all the volunteers and businesses that made this event possible.

“I’m looking forward to next year’s event.”
