After another very successful Children's Christmas Party on Dec. 10, it was the Forest Grove Volunteer Fire Department's turn to celebrate the Festive Season.

Members of the Ladies Auxiliary, Branch 261, Forest Grove, catered this special event on Dec. 17, which saw many firefighters and guests enjoying each other's company on a social level.

This was also the occasion to present a number of promotions and awards as well as one fond farewell.

Matt Wiesendahl is now the training officer, while Cliff Robertson was promoted to Lieutenant and Michael Gent to Captain.

Richard Bergen received the 'British Columbia Long Service Award' in recognition of 25 years of dedication to the fire service. Roger Beveridge accepted his 10-year pin and Shannon Wagner was bestowed the 5-year pin.

Captain Don Hewitt announced his retirement as he was moving away from the South Cariboo to settle in Winnipeg. Fire Chief Aron Zablotny praised him to have been a great asset to the department and stated that he will be greatly missed.

Age-Friendly

The Age Friendly Society of the South Cariboo held a '55+ Housing Forum' at the 100 Mile House community hall on Jan. 24, which included a number of guest presenters. Attendees were then invited to join discussions after a light lunch to gather further information.

In order to obtain as wide a variety of opinions throughout the area as possible, a survey was set up and everybody is asked to participate - https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/southcariboo55plushousingneeds.
