5 YEARS AGO (2019): A 100 Mile House conservation officer charged two men from the Lower Mainland for fishing over the limit. Joel Kline, the conservation officer at the time, said that he saw two individuals catching some fish on Snag Lake. After checking, he saw that the two men had overfished to the tune of 28 fish over the limit of 10. Kline also alleged he found four fishing rods, even though the allowable limit was one fishing rod at a time. The two men were fined $1,900 for the regulatory breaches, while the fish were to be given away to families in need.

10 YEARS AGO (2014): Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School was preparing to run a grad fashion show at 100 Mile House Junior Secondary with the theme of Glow In It. The purpose of such a show was to do fundraising for prom and grad ceremonies. This was not the first time PSO did something like this - according to Deana Amundson, a parent on the PSO grad committee, PSO did similar fashion shows during the 1990s. The fashion show had 40 students involved in organizing it.

25 YEARS AGO (1999): Chuck Cadman, a Reform MP at the time for Surrey North, was coming to 100 Mile Junior Secondary to talk about proposed changes to the Youth Offenders Act. Cadman says he had issues with the legislation that he would be addressing at 100 Mile Junior Secondary - and that he would have liked to see a youth criminal justice system that worked. The proposed Youth Criminal Justice Act would have focused more on diversion, as well as toughening up measures dealing with chronic criminals. Cadman was at the time the Justice Critic of the Reform Party.

50 YEARS AGO (1974): Alex Fraser, the Social Credit MLA for Cariboo at the time, debated with Dennis Cocke, then B.C.’s health minister, over the firing of Freda Vaness, who was based in 100 Mile House. Vaness was fired after she admitted to using a government car to do personal errands. The firing was controversial - as Fraser alleged Vaness not only signed a resignation letter under duress but was also never told she had a right to a public hearing. The debate lasted two hours. Vaness was supported by 1,550 residents of the 100 Mile House area.
