One year after
fire destroyed the 70 Mile General Store, the new building is completed and the store opened on
Jan. 20. The official grand opening was held Jan. 22, and the entire community has been waiting for this day and it finally arrived.
Happy birthday
Erik Skold of North Green Lake will be celebrating his 100th birthday.
A special party will be held on Jan. 30 between 4 and 6 p.m. at 70 Mile Community Hall, and all of his friends and neighbours are invited to attend.
Memorial service
There were more than 50 people at 70 Mile Community Hall on Jan. 15 to say goodbye to Dick Molzhan.
Dick was born in Poland and made his way through war-torn Europe to eventually land in West Germany. From there, he came to Canada and finally to 70 Mile House.
Friends taught him to speak English, but he always retained a little accent.
There were many photographs of his life in Europe and Canada, including many of the businesses and projects he was involved in, as well as pictures of friends and family.
There was an open mike for anyone to tell stories and share experiences.
A lunch was provided by Gail Moseley and the 70 Mile House Volunteer Fire Department.
Poker tournament
The next poker tournament will be held Jan. 29 at 70 Mile Community Hall.

SMAC meeting
The next general meeting of the Seventy Mile Access Centre will be on Feb. 12 at 10 a.m. at the centre.
Firefighters meet
The next general meeting of the 70 Mile House Volunteer Fire Department will be held on Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. at the fire hall.
Dinner a success
The South Cariboo Community Fellowship hosted a community Christmas dinner Dec. 18 at 70 Mile Community Hall.
A total of 114 dinners were served, which included turkey, ham, potatoes, gravy, vegetables, desert, and beverages. After dinner there was entertainment and songs.
It was a most enjoyable evening and thanks go out to the organizers for their hard work in putting this on.
Vegas draw
The second draw for a Las Vegas trip package was held on Dec. 29, and the winner was Clem Dumas. There will be more draws at the end of January, February and March.
Bookmobile
The Thompson Nicola bookmobile will be in the area on Jan. 27. It will be at the South Green Lake fire hall from 10 to 11 a.m. and at the 70 Mile General Store from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
