Whilst the day dawned at -22 C, beautiful sunshine warmed the world up to -8 C by the time prize-giving arrived at Deka Lake & District Volunteer Fire Department’s (DLDVFD) 23rd annual Ice-Fishing Derby on Feb. 10.
As is often the case, no rainbow took the bait, but the 207 ticket-holders brought in 14 kokanee and 21 lakers.
Cam Flinton took first prize for his 25 lb laker, followed by Rob Altmann’s at 15 lb 12oz, and Jack Domino’s weighing 14 lb 2oz.
Dan Mobbs brought in the biggest kokanee at 1 lb 12 oz. Vic Lewinsky and Shawn Keon each brought in fish weighing 1 lb 9 oz.
Four-year-old Jacob Wasylyszyn was delighted to go home with a beautiful fluffy moose.
DLDVFD is most grateful to its generous prize donors, including Ace Cameo and DJ Chimneys for the snow sled, and to the public for its unwavering support of this annual tradition.
