The District of 100 Mile House is bringing its Volunteer Fair back for a second year.

The second Volunteer Fair is set to place on Sunday, April 21 between 12 and 3 p.m. at the 100 Mile Community Hall. Coun. Donna Barnett, one of the organizers of the event, said it offers a great opportunity for volunteers to “learn about all the rewarding opportunities available” and a chance for volunteer organizations to “showcase what you do and network with other organizations.”

“It also gives volunteer organizations the opportunity to meet each other, to see which organization can provide for the community, a lot of them like to share,” Barnett said, noting that April is National Volunteer Month.

Barnett says that last year’s event was a big hit and hopes to replicate that success this year. Many of the organizations who took part last year signed up again for this year’s fair.

“They actually asked if we were going to do the fair again.”

One of those organizations planning to attend the fair is the South Cariboo Arts and Culture Society, which runs Parkside Art Gallery. Barb Brown, the gallery coordinator, said while she won’t be able to make it this year, she found the inaugural fair to be very beneficial.

“We gained two really valuable volunteers (last year) and were able to pass out some information about us,” Brown recalled. “Some people went ‘what, there’s an art gallery here?!’ and it was nice to meet other volunteers and share some of our common concerns.”

Brown is hopeful they’re able to pick up a few new volunteers this year and encourages anyone with an interest in volunteering to come to the fair.

In an interview last year, Barnett noted that the South Cariboo region has many different volunteer organizations that put on events, organize sports and more. Everyone is welcome to attend the event, and Barnett says she hopes the general public will come out.
