Rehearsals have started for the annual Bankers Variety Show to be held this year on March 19.

“It’s a blast,” says Shawna Norton of Williams Lake & District Credit Union, 100 Mile branch (WL&DCU).

“All the banks from town get together for this fundraiser, and we dress up and use props. There are comedy acts, but mostly we lip-sync various entertainers and bands.”

For the past seven years, staff from the local banking institutions, including CIBC, RBC, BMO and WL&DCU, get together for an evening of fun to raise money for the 139 Children’s Fundraising Society, which helps with the cost of food, lodging and medical equipment in the Cariboo-Chilcotin.

“All the money raised goes to families of sick children to help with their expenses, such as food and gas.”

The show will be held at the 100 Mile Community Hall with doors opening at 6 p.m. A dance, door prizes, 50/50 draws, ticket draws, and possibly an auctioned item or two will be added features of

the evening.

“There will be a snack after the show, but you could almost call it supper,” says Norton

“Tickets will be available soon, and for more information, people could ask at any of the financial institutions in town.”
