Students cheered on their classmates as close to 60 of them competed head-to-head on the mat during a 100 Mile House Elementary School wrestling tournament on Feb. 18.
Now, a number of the local grapplers – from grades 4 to 7 – are getting set for Wrestlemania, which goes March 7 at 100 Mile House Junior Secondary School.
The 100 Mile House Wrestling Club is hosting the event, which usually sees about 80 wrestlers, says club coach Phil Johnston.
“It's a fun day. It gets them interested in the sport.”
Johnston adds he hopes a number of the competitors stick with it going into high school.
Invitations have gone out to schools in Williams Lake, Prince George and the surrounding area.
