Never fails, we always get a reminder that it is still wintertime on Easter Weekend! I am sure glad that the skiff came and left so that it was an enjoyable day for our Easter Egg hunt. Judging by the number of cars in the parking lot and then all the kids milling around, I would say it was a total success!

The kids all had fun racing out into the fenced yard to find the treats and fill their baskets. There were free hot dogs and hot chocolate for all. The bouncy castle was also a great hit with long lineups right away.

Our Easter Bunny Lois did a fantastic job mingling with the crowd and she certainly was a hit with all the kids. We cannot even begin to thank all those folks who volunteered to make it a wonderful day for the kids. Special thanks to Heather Shepherd for donating all the chocolate and candy for the kids to find.

It was a pleasure to see so many of the community residents come out and join the fun. The Lac La Hache Volunteer Fire Department was also on-site to help.

The weather changed so quickly in March to warmer but windy days. The wind helped evaporate the remaining snow on the ground and thankfully started to dry up all the mud. Today a person can still find the odd patch of snow but mostly in the forested areas where the sunshine does not reach.

Folks are still being daredevils and going out onto the lake, reports of folks skating on the lake are still trickling in. The lake is all open on the north end, so it will not be safe for much longer – please take care and do not be that person that everyone hears about in the news!

The arena has finished the season off with a big tournament the weekend of March 9 and 10. The visiting hockey teams indicated that they will be using our ice more next year – good ice is hard to find and ice time is even more difficult!

The elementary school students showed their appreciation for all their Friday afternoon skates by making cards and presenting them. The students had their usual fun showing their artistic talents off by drawing on the ice. Maintenance will be ongoing at the arena once the ice is off, plans are in the works to get the crack in the floor repaired as well as some other things.

Did everyone notice the drive-through coffee shack located at 112 Mile close to Franks Meats? It opened on March 12 and the hours of operation will be 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The Hungry Bear diner is back serving breakfasts as of March 19. The new hours of operation will be Mondays 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Tuesdays to Sundays 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Other changes around the community are - Taylorann Fitness is cancelling her Thursday evening classes and Q Brew Coffee is open at 7 a.m. to serve you your favourite beverage.

The crib tournament held at the Cariboo Pioneer Centre had forty-eight crib players attending this time. The spaghetti dinner was delicious and plentiful, as a result, happy folks enjoyed getting an extra plate to take home for supper also!

The Flea Market held on March 24 was another success. Fran Ellison did a superb job waving in passing by traffic and handing out Easter treats! Her Easter Hat is a work of art and priceless to see! Mark it on your calendar, the next Flea Market will be on April 28, come on out and check out all the vendors! To book a table give Fran a call at 250-396-4003.

Good news - The Lac La Hache Thrift Store is reopening April 5 for their new season; hours of operation will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays to Saturdays.

- A fundraiser for the Cariboo Pioneer Centre will be held at the Community Hall on April 6 and 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Stop by and check out all the crafts and vendors, there will also be face painting, free books for the children (gently used) and the kitchen will be serving hot dogs, hamburgers and refreshments.

- Pete’s Home Cooking will be reopening on April 7, there will be a new menu and a fresh look. When you stop by, check out the mural that Raina Rees has been working on – this young lady is incredibly talented.

- Bingo will be resuming on April 10. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., card sales are at 6 p.m. and games start at 7 p.m. sharp. Volunteers are always welcome, please contact me at 250-396-7567 if you would like to help.

Finally looking ahead – Pam King is hosting a Mother’s Day pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 12 at the Cariboo Pioneer Centre. The menu is pancakes, fruit and whipped topping, bacon or sausage and eggs. The price is $15 for adults and $10 for kids. There will also be crafts on site, plants, and baking, vendors are welcome.
