(née Klusmann)

Born on July 18, 1938 in Düsseldorf, Germany and passed away June 28, 2017 at Green Lake, BC, Canada.

At home, surrounded by family, as the sun set peacefully over the lake, we are sad to share Marga passed away after a valiant battle against ovarian cancer. Marga began her journey to Canada in 1961 when she made the courageous choice to emigrate from the Netherlands to Vancouver, on her own, with $63, and one steamer trunk.

Employed at the UBC Research Station of Agriculture Canada, she worked in the highly technical field of electron microscopy, where she met her future husband. Life would lead them from Vancouver, where Marga also worked in the Anatomical Pathology lab at VGH, to Richmond, Summerland and Green Lake.

A devoted member of many community organizations, her years teaching Tai Chi and English, leading Girl Guides, and volunteering in a community fire hall reflect a life lived with courage, integrity, kindness, wit and wisdom.

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Marga always said her greatest happiness came from her family. Marga leaves the world a better place with her example: encourage and educate all children, contribute to your community.

Marga is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Laszlo; her daughters, Pauline (Scott), and Gabrielle (Alan); son, Richard; grandson, Owen; sister, Erika; and many cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Marga’s memory to OVCARE, BC’s Ovarian Cancer Research Team, through the BC Cancer Foundation.
