Brian Smedley

Brian passed away peacefully with his family at his side on July 25, 2007 in 100 Mile House, BC. Survived by his loving wife Tas, children: Kristie (Andy), Shelley, Lyndsay (Iain), Christopher (Kim) and grandchildren, Marissa, Merrick and Zachary, brother Lynn and sister Diane. Brian was born in Victoria, BC November 10, 1943. He enjoyed varied careers which spanned over 43 years. He apprenticed as a machinist at Dockyard in Victoria and then began his aviation career as an Aviation Mechanic for the Flying Fireman. This led him to become a pilot for the Flying Fireman followed by the BC Government Air Services. After 24 years with the BC Government, Brian flew for Ainsworth Lumber in 100 Mile House, BC. After retirement from flying, Brian was able to follow his life long dream to become a cowboy. He worked for many ranches in the Cariboo his last one being the 112 Mile Ranch. Brian was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. In 2005 he won stockdog champion with his beloved companian J.J. There will be two Memorial Services, the first in Victoria, BC on August 2, 2007 at 2 p.m at First Memorial in Royal Oak. The second service will take place in 100 Mile House on August 11, 2007 at 1 p.m. at the Martin Exeter Hall. In lieu of flowers, Brian’s wish was to create a scholarship fund for youth choosing an aviation career. Donations can be made out to the Brian Smedley Memorial in trust and mailed to P.O.
