Bill was born in Oddernes, Norway, the second son of Helene and Jacob Karikstad.
He passed away at
Mill Site Lodge with family by his side.
He was raised in Kristiansand South Norway, served his apprenticeship in the plumbing trade and immigrated to Canada in 1951 at the age of 23.
Bill worked in many locations for B. Boe Ltd., Vancouver being their home. Bill married Norma Lois Finlayson in 1956, settling in North Vancouver. Forming a plumbing company in partnership with friends who successfully worked on many of the first high rises in the Vancouver skyline until Bill’s early retirement at age 50.
The Cariboo and Bridge Lake beckoned them to a summer home, then a lovely log home on Johnstone Road. Bill worked briefly in the area and also in 100 Mile House at 100 Mile Plumbing.
Bill was a Lion’s Club Member and enjoyed the service aspect of this club.
In 1994 Bill married Carla Marcy and moved to 100 Mile House into a lovely home with the feel of country and the convenience of town.
He travelled many times to Norway to visit his family and is survived by his sister Gerd (Hauge) and brother Oyvinn. Bill is also survived by his wife of 22 years Carla, step sons; Norman (Terry), Guy (Wendy), grand children; Desiree (Jay), Sean and Eva, great grandson Jacob, nieces and nephews in both Canada and Norway as well as many friends.
He was pre-deceased by his first wife Norma, brothers; Arne, John and Jon Helge, his sisters; Inger and Ashilde along with his brother in law Herbert.
Bill experienced the love and care from all the staff at Mill Site Lodge and the care of Bruce Nicholson, his doctor and friend for many years. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt “thanks” to friends and family for their concern and kindness.
A Memorial Service for Bill will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2016 11a.m. at the 100 Mile House United Church, 49 Dogwood Avenue.
