Garbage fire in 100 Mile House

100 Mile House RCMP responded to 95 calls for service during the past week. Some highlights are as follows:

Garbage fire

On May 27, RCMP were called to a report of a fire started near a dumpster at 476 Cedar Ave. The 100 Mile House Fire Dept. extinguished the blaze before it was able to spread further. It was determined that piles of garbage were lit on fire and a person described only as a “younger male” was observed in the area at the time when the fire started.

Intoxication

On May 27, RCMP received a report of an intoxicated male who had kicked and damaged a vehicle parked near Centennial Park. Members arrived and located the male who was arrested for mischief and causing a disturbance. The 35-year-old male resident of 100 Mile House was later released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.

Impaired driving

On May 27, RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver on Highway 97 southbound from 108 Mile Ranch. Cariboo Chilcotin Traffic Services located the vehicle as described on Highway 97 and subsequently stopped it. The male driver had symptoms of alcohol consumption and a road side breath test was conducted. The male provided a fail sample and as a result was issued an immediate roadside prohibition for 90 days. The vehicle he was operating was impounded for 30 days.

Vehicle fire

On May 23, at approximately 6 a.m., RCMP were called to a report of a vehicle on fire on Keane Rd and Highway 97 near 93 Mile House. Members arrived and found the vehicle was fully engulfed. The 2005 Ford F350 had been reported stolen from Prince George the day previous.

Overturned truck

On May 23, RCMP were called to a report of a logging truck overturned on the Gustafsen Lake Forest Service Road approximately 30 km from 100 Mile House. A fully loaded logging truck was driving toward 100 Mile House when it rounded a sharp corner and flipped over onto its left side. The driver of the logging truck sustained injuries and was transported to the 100 Mile House hospital for further treatment. The truck and trailer sustained severe damage and logs were spilled into an old cutblock. The incident did not affect traffic in the area.

Fishing gear

On May 23, RCMP received a report from concerned citizens of a male taking fishing gear from a boat left unattended at Irish Lake. The citizens approached and confronted the male who returned the fishing gear to them. A license plate number was obtained on the vehicle and RCMP will be following up with the registered owner. RCMP would also like to speak with the owner of the boat and equipment ownership is currently not known.

Prohibited driving

On May 23, RCMP were called to a report of persons using drugs in a vehicle at a business on the 100 block of Highway 97. Members located and stopped the vehicle. It was found that the driver of the vehicle was prohibited from driving. He was subsequently arrested and released for court at a later date. A small amount of a substance believed to be an opioid was seized from the vehicle. The vehicle was impounded.

Break and enter

On May 22, RCMP were called to a report of a break and enter to a residence on the 4000 block of Timothy Lake Rd. Sometime over the past few weeks the residence was entered and jewelry was taken. A blue 1997 Dodge pickup which was unlicensed was also taken from the property. On May 26, RCMP were called to a report of a break and enter in progress at the same residence. Members attended and did not locate any suspects on site. The residence had been entered again but nothing known was taken. Video surveillance was obtained and the investigation into the incidents and possible identification of the suspects, believed to be two people, is ongoing.
