Larry Richet is the co-owner of the Big Country Lanes in 100 Mile House and he is excited about introducing the Youth Bowling Council (YBC) program to the Family Bowling Centre.

He and his wife, Sherree, held an YBC open house on Oct. 15, and folks came in to check it out.

Larry says YBC is sponsored by the Canadian Five Pin Bowling Association, which provides coaching at the local level to help teach the youngsters the fundamentals of bowling and etiquette.

"They want the youngsters to go out there and enjoy themselves and to participate in a sport that is common to every age."

Larry says YBC presents youth bowlers the opportunity to go to local competitions.

They can also go to zone competitions to compete for a berth in the provincial championships, and if they keep winning, they can go all the way to the national championships.

Larry notes children who come to Big Country Lanes to participate in the YBC program will make new friendships, fundamentally learn the game, enjoy it and become better community people because of it because of it.

"Any parent who is interested in helping out with YBC is more than welcome. Coaching clinics are available for people who want to take them."

The YBC program kicks off on Oct. 22 at 10 a.m.

Folks can register by calling 778-482-5002 or dropping in on a Saturday at 10 a.m. to check it out.
