U13 soccer zones here in June

It's nowhere near the honour of hosting a provincial championship, but having the U13 female and male soccer zone play downs held in 100 Mile House will still be exciting.

The zones take place here on June 5, as a bit of compensation for the 100 Mile House & District Soccer Association (OMHSA) having previously lost the right to host the 2011 Provincial B Cup Championships in those two divisions.

The OMHSA had been slated to host the U13 Provincials in July, but in early April, they were moved elsewhere due to a loss of confidence in the town's ability to provide enough accommodation space for visiting players.

The U15 Provincials, however, will take place in 100 Mile House from July 7-10.

The zones will see 100 Mile House, Quesnel and Prince George play off for the right to represent their zone at the U13 Provincial B Cup, which will now take place in Powell River.

Werner Heine, OMHSA communications and sponsorship director, says he is expecting about 72 visiting soccer players, their parents and several officials to be in town for the play downs.

"Everything is falling into place and, hopefully, lots of people come down to cheer our boys and girls on."

Game times for the 100 Mile House teams are 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. for both the boys and girls, on June 5.

All games take place at the OMHSA Soccer Park.
