Forwards Robin Gilbert, Wilfred Robbins and starting goalie Willie Sellars are among the core players returning to the Lac la Hache Tomahawks this season, while the local Central Interior Hockey League club is also seeing a handful of new players in uniform with tryouts all wrapped up and the regular season starting this weekend.
Coach Byron Louie and general manager Al Navrot are happy with the mix of fresh and returning guys on the roster and the turnout of close to 20 skaters at tryouts, says Louie.
“We worked the boys pretty hard. They enjoyed themselves.”
Lac la Hache, which finished 3-13 last season, opens the 2015-16 season on the road against the defending East Division champions, the Williams Lake Stampeders, on Oct. 17.
The Tomahawks' home opener at the Rolf Zeis Memorial Arena is Oct. 18 against the Smithers Steelheads.
“I'm excited to get this thing rolling,” says Louie, who takes over the head coaching reins from Navrot this season.
