Registration is now open for the third annual Mr. T Contracting Charity Golf Tournament.
The tournament is set to take place on May 31 at the 108 Golf Resort, with check-in at 10 a.m. and the shotgun start at 11 a.m, and will be an 18-hole, scramble tournament. According to Victoria Feistmantl and Crystal McArdle, two of the organizers of the golf tournament, the tournament will raise funds for the South Cariboo Health Foundation, which will use them to support the 100 Mile District General Hospital's Oncology Department.
"For anyone that is undergoing any kind of cancer treatments and that have come back to 100 Mile and do some of the more local treatments, there is a small facility within the hospital where they can receive some of their treatments," McArdle explained.
Last year, the tournament raised over $6,000.
"All the money stays local within 100 Mile," McArdle said.
She added that thanks to last year's tournament, the foundation was able to purchase a vein finder, temporal thermometers, IV poles, blood pressure cuffs and stands and chairs for families to sit with chemo patients while they are undergoing treatment.
The tournament is organised every year in memory of Sabine Feistmantl, who passed away from breast cancer in 2019. Sabine helped found Mr. T contracting with Feistmantl's father, Tiger.
"We're very honoured to hold this event and contribute to the community," Feistmantl explained.
The tournament will be conducted in a scramble format - a common format in golf, in which a team of four players hits their ball throughout the match. Team captains then choose the best shot from the first stroke and use the same spot for each player.
After completing one round, the team then engages in another stroke where they select one location and play the balls from there. The process continues until the holes are completed. Such a format is common in charity golf tournaments, with more relaxed rules than in more competitive tournaments.
"It's just to promote fun, because it's not geared towards like avid golfers, so all skill levels can enter," Feistmantl remarked.
Around 18 teams of four players have already signed up for the tournament.
There are also two hole-in-one prizes up for grabs throughout the tournament. The first two golfers who tee off and hit a hole in one, could win either a Ford Bronco or a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The Ford Bronco will be up for grabs on Hole Four, while the Harley-Davidson will be up for grabs on Hole 10.
The price to register for the tournament is $120 per player.
In addition to the tournament, there will also be a cocktail hour cash bar open at 5 p.m. at the 108 Community Hall, as well as dinner open to the public that will be served at 6 p.m. The price for a dinner ticket will be $25. Finally, alongside a dinner and cocktail hour cash bar, there will also be a 50/50 raffle and silent auction.
"We got the Wranglers doing some jersey and some game passes, as well as Lee's Custom Floors donating gift cards and a flooring kit. So we're still trying to get some donations," said Feistmantl about what will be auctioned.
Those who want to register for the tournament can email gold@mrtcontracting.ca. The deadline to register is May 20.
