Mothers' Day was truly special for the 34 women who came out to play at the 108 Ladies' Golf Club Ice Breaker Tournament at the 108 Golf Resort.

As if by design, the weather held until the last team was off the course, before the clouds burst their seams and let go of their rain.

The big winner of the day was a visiting team from Williams Lake, including Lisa Kerley, Gina Alexander, Allison Levins and Tammi Caferra, who took first place in the nine-hole team event.

Second place went to the team of Barb Martin, Nancy Minato, Julietta Morrette and Janet Roux, while the team of Leslie Bell, Linda Hames and Sharon Classen took third place.

The tournament took the format of a team dice game, during which teams of four were drawn from a hat and each player took a number from one to four. At the end of each hole, a dice was rolled and the score of the person, whose number matched the dice, was used on the scorecard.

"Drawing the teams works great," says Ladies Golf Club captain Roux.

"It mixes the ladies up. They usually golf with their friends, but this way, they golfed with someone new and they seemed to enjoy it."

Roux adds the golf course was in good shape, considering the time of year.

"It's still recovering from winter, but it was quite nice."

A lunch in the Tatton Room at the 108 Resort, along with prize presentations wrapped up the day.

Winners received cash, while door prizes of free golf lessons and golf for two and a power cart at the Merritt Golf and Country Club were also given away. To top it off, each of the participants was given a carnation and tomato plant in recognition of Mother's Day.

Weekly Ladies Club play on Mondays is now underway for the members, with starts times at 1:30 and 5:30 p.m.
