Rain washes out men’s fastball games

Rain wrecked havoc with the local men’s fastball schedule during the past two weeks, leaving three out of seven game nights cancelled.

Extremely wet conditions at Lumberman’s Park by May 26 necessitated having the District of 100 Mile House works department come to pump out the infield.

The league was able to squeeze in a game on May 18 during which Williams Lake Shuswap took both sides of a doubleheader, downing Red Rock 11-1 in the first game and 8-2 in the second.

Exeter Sporting Goods saw their first defeat of the season on May 19, losing 9-4 to Jake’s Pub. Pitcher for the winning team was Greg Parent.

Rain held off long enough on May 24 to allow a 14-3 win for Exeter in a game with Sanders Redi-Mix. The game looked like it might be an Exeter shutout until Bill Estabrooks from Sanders spoiled it with a homer over the centre-field fence.

A tight game on May 30 saw Pat Findlay help Red Rock to a 6-5 lead over Exeter by the top of the seventh inning. Exeter’s Chad Paterson turned the tide in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run homer to end the game 7-6 for Exeter.
