Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School hosted Desert Sands Community School for a trio of basketball games on Monday, Dec. 2.
The PSO Eagles and the Desert Sands Rams faced off in front of students from both schools with the junior boys, senior boys and girls basketball teams all getting a chance to play. Eagles coach Willy Hollett said the program is off to a busy start already this season, with his teams already playing eight games, six of which they've won.
"The sheer effort and dedication already put forth by the student-athletes at PSO during their try-outs, practices and first games of the season demonstrates their commanding drive for personal development and the growth of their teams and the sport of basketball in 100 Mile House," Hollett remarked.
Against the Rams the junior boys eked out a 52 to 45 victory after a back-and-forth game. The senior boys, meanwhile, took a more commanding 55 to 43 victory over their counterparts from Ashcroft while the Ashcroft girls' team was able to beat out 100 Mile House 43 to 33.
Hollett said these games were well-rounded performances from all his players and a cohesive performance within the teams. He and fellow coaches TJ Grabowiecki and Andrew Steeves plan to build off this result throughout the rest of the season.
As they prepare for that season, however, Hollett said they are looking for new team sponsors to help fund the team's equipment and travel costs.
"We have many tournaments booked and will require help from the community to support our student-athletes," Hollett said.
