The 100 Mile Peewee Reps played in a Tier 3 tournament in Princeton last weekend, and came away with the most sportsmanlike trophy for being the least penalized squad.
In game 1 against Westside (Kelowna), 100 Mile played very strong defensively for the first two periods, allowing only one goal in each, for 2-0 deficit going into third.
However, they couldn’t hold off Westside’s offence in third, giving up countless breakaways and rebounds, and eventually lost 8-1. The lone 100 Mile goal was tallied by Masen Fernandes.
The host team (Princeton) provided the opposition in game 2 and gave 100 Mile its best result with a 3-3 score. The Milers went up 1-0 in the first on a goal by Dylan McNeil, and were tied 2-2 going into the second intermission thanks to a marker by Mackenzie Menzel. Lukas Waldner notched the third goal for 100 Mile.
Game 3 was against a very strong team from Merritt, and 100 Mile was down 6-0 after first stanza. They trailed 9-2 after two periods with 100 Mile goals coming from Emmett Collens and Adam Wilkie.
When the final buzzer sounded, 100 Mile had lost 11-3, with the final goal scored by Fernandes.
These were all played Saturday, so the players were very tired for the third game.
100 Mile played in a rematch against Princeton for 5th place on Sunday.
The squad trailed 2-1 after the first period (goal by Brandan Moore, assist Fernandes). It was tied 3-3 after 40 minutes, with both goals and the natural hat trick from Moore, assisted by Cooper Uphill and McNeil.
However, it was a tough third period for the Milers.
Down 6-4 with four minutes left and on a 5-on-3 power play, 100 Mile pulled its goalie for a 6-on-3 advantage, but couldn’t score.
As Princeton’s second penalty ended, they scored into an empty net on a missed icing call, and then they scored again late to win 8-4.
Goalie duties were split between Aidan Harding and Mason Johnson and both came up big at various times.
Other teams in the tournament included North Vancouver and Tri-Cities from south of the border.
“Every player showed positive contributions throughout the tournament.
The players get along very well
and enjoy playing together in games and tournaments, regardless of the results,” says spokesperson Mike Davidson.
100 Mile House will be hosting a
rep tournament
on the Feb. 18-20 weekend.
