Old Timers Hockey Association looking for players

Registration underway at Exeter Sporting Goods until Sept. 26

Registration is now underway for the 100 Mile Old Timers Hockey Association, a popular co-ed hockey league getting ready to enter its 13th season.

Players in the old-timers league range in age from 35 to 85 years, with skill levels varying from beginner to seasoned veterans.

Association member and player Jude Dion tells the Free Press the league is looking forward to another successful season of competitive, friendly hockey.

"We've got the arena in Lac la Hache back open now, so we're looking forward to that," Dion says, referring to the early closure last winter of the Rolf Zeis Memorial Arena.

Last year's hockey season saw more than 60 players on four teams; the league played 20 regular season games and four playoff matchups.

The league operates under the regulations of the Canadian Amateur Recreation Hockey Association, with all games refereed by qualified officials.

Registration for the 2016/17 season is open from now until 5 p.m. on Sept. 26 and registration forms are available at Exeter Sporting Goods.

Players must be 35 years old as of Jan 1, 2017 and will be selected to teams via a draft to take place prior to the season opener in mid-October.

Games will be played at the South Cariboo Rec. Centre on Wednesday evenings and at the Rolf Zeis Memorial Arena in Lac la Hache on Thursday evenings.

Players will also receive a $25 reimbursement on registration costs – $290 for full time, $190 for shift-work players and $140 for goalies – for each new player they bring to the league who did not play last year.
