A couple of 100 Mile House rep soccer teams had disappointing results at last weekend's U13 zone play downs in 100 Mile House.

Both the 100 Mile House & District Soccer Association (OHMSA) U13 boys and U13 girls ended up in third place after playing Prince George and Quesnel for berths at the provincials.

In both cases, Prince George earned its place as top team and will be competing at the BC Soccer Youth Provincial B Cup in Powell River.

It was a heartbreaker because the local teams had originally been given a bye to provincials because the OMHSA was going to host the provincial U13 and U15 tournaments back. Last month, BC Soccer decided to move the U13 zones to Powell River and the 100 Mile teams lost their free pass.

U13 boys coach Lisa Davidson says her team has improved a lot this season, but was no match for the stronger Prince George squad that practises through the winter months at an indoor facility.

Prince George downed 100 Mile House boys 8-0 and Quesnel beat the host team 7-0 with Kean Kellermeier in net for 100 Mile.

The 100 Mile girls lost 4-0 in their first game with Quesnel, but rebounded in game 2 to take an early 1-0 lead on Prince George, with Paige Hall scoring the marker. The host team held the lead for the better part of the first half, with Delaney Speers in net, but was eventually overtaken and lost 8-1.

Team manager Pam Easton says her team's best game was against Prince George.

"We had several scoring opportunities, but were unable to find the back of the net."

Both teams will continue to play out the season in the Cariboo Youth Soccer League, where games are held every weekend in one of the three member communities of 100 Mile House, Williams Lake and Quesnel.
