Minor hockey starts at the Timbits Initiation level for most players and it's always delightful to watch them scrimmage

Minor Hockey Week is celebrated Jan. 13-19, but with 100 Mile & District Minor Hockey Association, it happens all season long, from September to March, says association president Darrell Blades.

Basically, he adds this is why the local association won't be straying from its regular schedule to acknowledge the special tribute week.

Blades notes they have every minute of available ice time booked from now until the end of the season with practices and games, and another coaching clinic to complement courses offered earlier.

"We're making sure volunteers have the tools to do their jobs and that's been the focus this year. We've had nothing but positive comments and our coaches are looking forward to the next course."

The club is now heading into the busiest part of the season, with the younger divisions starting to concentrate on playing games, rather than practices and scrimmages, which have been the focus.

Many of the teams will be heading out of town for games and tournaments and the Novice and Midget divisions each have a home tournament planned. The Initiation division has a fun-day scheduled in February.

Blades says the association greatly support Junior B hockey taking root in 100 Mile House through the new 100 Mile House Wranglers club. He adds many of their volunteers were involved with the recent Penticton Lakers versus Kamloops Storm game played at the South Cariboo Rec. Centre.

He notes minor hockey is always in need of more volunteers and people aren't required to have children registered with the club in order to help out.

In general, he says all is well with the association.

"It's been a pretty typical minor hockey year. It's pretty good and progressing nicely."
