The Peter Skene Ogden Eagles Senior Girls had their wings clipped in their last game of the basketball season against their arch-rivals the Lake City Secondary School Falcons in Williams Lake on Friday, March 1.
It was a tough loss as the 100 Mile girls started “beautifully,” Coach Rick Barker said. The Eagles jumped to an 8-2 lead but a strong three-point shooter for the Falcons brought the Williams Lake team back into the game. The score was knotted at 14 for most of the second quarter but “we couldn’t find an answer to their outside shooting ability,” he said.
In the end, it was a 51-28 loss for Ogden, a team consisting of six senior students and three juniors playing up due to injuries.
Grace Friesen led the local girls with seven points while Eva Rosenstock and Joelle Kuyek each had six in the losing cause.
“The score didn’t reflect our girls’ heart and hustle. They ran the plays we had been working on; they never gave up and they always showed great sportsmanship as well, even when battered around under the boards. I am very proud to be their coach,” Barker added.
The team is looking forward to facing off against the Ogden teachers for a fun year-end finale.
