The Forest Grove and District Rod & Gun Club is trying something new on Sept. 17 and hosting of its inaugural fishing derby.

It's taking place at Howard Lake, with registration between 9 and 10 a.m. and final weigh-in at 3 p.m. at the Howard Lake recreation site.

Entry fees are $10 for adults, and children 16 years and younger take part at no cost.

There will be cash prizes for the adults, with half of the entry fees divvied up among the top 3, and loads of other prizes for the children.

People are encouraged to bring along a lunch, as there will be no food or drinks available for purchase at the derby.
