Practice has paid off for figure skaters, Brittany Boyd and Giorgia Lanzoni of the 100 Mile House Figure Skating Club.

Boyd won a bronze medal at the 32nd Annual Autumn Leaves Free Skate Competition, held Oct. 14-16 at McArthur Island Sports Centre in Kamloops. She competed in the preliminary ladies division, group 2 and this was only the second time Boyd had competed at that level. Her first was in August at the SummerSkate 2011 in Burnaby where she placed seventh.

Lanzoni landed a fifth place finish in the pre-preliminary ladies division, group 3 at Autumn Leaves and won bronze at SummerSkate.

Both girls take their skating very seriously says Andrea Veitch, Boyd's mom. While they skate one, and sometimes two days or three days per week in 100 Mile House, they also travel to Kamloops three times every week for lessons.

The pair also spent five weeks of their summer at skating camp in Kamloops to get the edge they will need this season.

"The dedication they have is unbelievable," says Veitch.

Boyd will be skating this year as a member of the Cariboo North Central Regional Development Team and Veitch says she has her sights set on competing at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
