100 Mile House rep teams played a lot of soccer on June 11-12 with three teams participating in provincial play downs Saturday and all squads playing Cariboo Youth Soccer League (CYSL) games on Sunday in Williams Lake.

Play downs

The U15 Boys played two games against the Prince George U15 Boys in the northern city on June 11.

Game 1 ended in a 5-1victory for Prince George; however, coach John Park says the game was actually very close.

“We ended up scoring three goals against ourselves, which our keeper Jesse Chamberlain had no chance to stop. Our lone goal scorer was Ben Ryan who crashed the net on the far post, beating the Prince George keeper to the ball with a spectacular dive.

“Unfortunately, he ended up injuring himself on the play and wasn’t able to play the rest of the day.”

Prince George took game 2 with a 4-0 shutout, but Park says the contest was very close in the first half.

Noting they had no substitutes, he adds the boys were exhausted in the last 25 minutes and could not keep up with a team that had full line changes regularly.

U15 Girls

The U15 Girls played in Quesnel and lost 6-0 to Quesnel and 5-0 to Prince George.

Both the 100 Mile U15 Boys and U15 Girls will be competing as the host community at the Provincial B Cup Championships in 100 Mile, July 7-10.

U18 Boys

The U18 Boys played in Prince George with four teams vying to become the zone representative at the U18 Provincial B Cup Championships in Penticton, July 7-10.

100 Mile's first game was against Williams Lake and the boys played an impressive game, winning 2-0, with Kevin Raimundo and Micky Turner notching the markers.

Game 2 saw 100 Mile go down 3-2 to Quesnel. Goal scorers were Michael Montgomery and Tyler Craig.

The third game was a 9-1 victory for Prince George, with the lone 100 Mile marker coming from Duncan Wallace. By this point the team was down to only 11 players due to injury.

Jens Mowatt was strong in goal throughout all the play downs, recording one shutout.

CYSL results in Williams Lake on June 12 were as follows:

U11 Girls

The U11 girls had to settle for a 2-2 tie against Quesnel, with both goals scored by Courtney Cave.

Coach Lianne Heales says both Heather Heales and Olivia Poggenpohl were outstanding in net.

Although they lost 4-0 to Williams Lake, coach Heales says it was a much closer game than their previous match-up. “Thanks to Heather Heales and Alison Carr in net, with Alison denying Williams Lake on a penalty shot.”

U11 Boys

Game 1 against Williams Lake saw the Lakecity squad win 5-0. Goalies Luke Jewitt and Ryan Wallace shared the duties in the 100 Mile net.

Game 2 against Quesnel ended in a 2-2 tie, with both 100 Mile goals scored by Shon Baik. Hunter Swalwell was the goalie for game 2.

U13 Boys

Game 1 saw Williams Lake win 4-1, with Tyler Kukkola notching the goal for 100 Mile House. Game 2 ended with Quesnel winning 6-0.

Goalie Jesse Stich played very well in both games, making some very impressive saves.

U15 Boys

100 Mile split the difference with Williams Lake, losing game 1 by a 2-0 margin, but shutting out their Lakecity adversaries 3-0 in game 2.

U15 Girls

The girls played very well on Sunday rebounding from Saturday's shutout losses in the play downs.

Their first game was a 1-0 victory over Williams Lake.

The second game of the day was a rematch of the game played Saturday against Quesnel was a more typical close game between the two teams. However, Quesnel won 1-0.

U18 Boys

The boys played Quesnel first and were able to earn a 3-2 victory despite being down to 10 players due to injuries suffered at the play downs.

Goal scorers were Michael Montgomery, Kevin Raimundo and Micky Turner. The net minders for game 1 were Jens Mowatt and Trevor Van Straaten.

The team continued to work hard during its second game of the day; however, they were defeated 5-3 by Williams Lake. Goal scorers were Turner, Mowatt and Tyler Craig. Montgomery played in goal in the second game.
