Curling club prepares for women's bonspiel

100 Mile House women's bonspiel promises to be a great event

Excitement is building at the 100 Mile Curling Club, as its members prepare for their annual Ladies Bonspiel, March 2-4.

Club president Joanne Doddridge says they're expecting about a dozen out-of-town teams from Quesnel, Williams Lake, Clearwater, Ashcroft, Lillooet, Kamloops and Chase.

"Hopefully, we get about 24 teams (altogether). We welcome new teams and returning teams and especially want to challenge the ladies from our newest league, our Monday Night Business League."

She says it will be a weekend of fun and laughter, with each team guaranteed at least three games.

Saturday night, the women will be treated to a banquet dinner prepared by the men’s league. The theme this year, says Doddridge, is "Hard Times" but that won't reflect on the meal or the hospitality.

On the ice, she anticipates some top-notch curling and is inviting spectators to drop in any time to watch.

"We have excellent spectator areas, plenty of seating and there's lots of activity."

To catch the finals, be at the rink at about 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
