The curling season came to a close for the 100 Mile House Curling Club on March 27 with a fun turkey shoot, annual general meeting and presentation of awards to league winners.

About two dozen members showed up for the event, which was held at the curling club.

Winner of the Ladies' league and the Ladies' championship event was the Char Marshall rink with Melody Sokolowski, Gwen Gage and Michelle Guy.

Marshall ended up a quadruple winner, as her Mixed team, with John Atkinson, Nick Goshorn and Sharon Goshorn, were leaders in the Mixed league, and they also won the Mixed championship event.

In Men's league weekly play, Hugh MacGillivray and his team of Richard Minato, Brian Considine and Martin Sarich finished in first place while the Men's championship winner was the Ed Ney rink with Bill Pratt, Rod Hammerer and Cameron Bird.

MacGillivray notes that in men's play, holders of the top 3 positions changed continuously throughout the season.

"The competition was very good. I've been together with Brian and Martin for three years, and with Hugh, we're coming together now. It takes a while."

People who attended the final event had fun throwing rocks for meat prizes in the turkey shoot. Competitors got three shots for $2 and those who placed their rocks closest to the button shared in prizes of three turkeys and a ham.

"It was a nice way to wrap up the season," says Mel Dodge, the club's outgoing president.

At the AGM, he passed on the presidency to Joanne Doddridge, the club's former media person.

"I do it with mixed feelings," says Dodge, who has held the position since 2006. "This has been a great group to work with."

Nick Goshorn remains in the position of vice-president and Marilyn Rankin carries on as secretary/treasurer.

New additions to the board of directors are Dustin Leduc, Sher O'Brien and Michelle Guy.
