Bergen focused on a seat in Olympic rowing

Gabe Bergan hoping to secure a spot on Olympic rowing team

As the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games draws nearer, there is no shortage of work to be done for 12 men on Canada's shortlist of national-level rowers who are hoping to secure a seat in the men's eight boat.

The only thing for sure is Canada will be represented in the event and that's what keeps team candidate Gabe Bergen, from 100 Mile House, focused on his task.

"In order to earn my spot, I have to make sure I am at my best. There are different things we do that measure who is ready to be in the eight, like erg scores, pair rowing and four rowing.

"I have to try to make sure I am always helping my boat to move as fast as possible."

Bergen says he has put in a lot of work during his rowing career and making the team is very important to him.

"It would be an accomplishment to compete for an Olympic gold [medal]."
