The Interlakes Rodeo Ground was host to more than 100 campers recently, as the Quad Squad South Cariboo ATV Club organized the Quad Riders ATV Association of British Columbia's 2013 Jamboree and annual general meeting, Aug. 19-26.
The event took a huge amount of work, a year to plan and the trails were dusty, Quad Squad president Ralph Matthews says, adding it was all worth it, says.
The 105 campers who descended on the South Cariboo with their ATV equipment came from all over the province, representing 12 different ATV clubs from Vancouver Island to Fort St. John.
Matthews says guided rides to Green Lake and Windy Mountain were offered during the week.
“All the rides were a huge success. Everybody loved them.
“[ATV riding] gets you out into the back country where it's quiet and relaxing. No telephones, no computers, just enjoying the ride with people who have a respect for the outdoors.”
At the annual general meeting on Aug. 24, members got clarification on some of the changes to insurance being offered to ATV owners.
Cariboo-Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett also spoke about ATV registration and licensing.
Any money raised at the week-long Jamboree will go to improving the area’s trail systems.
