2017 Cariboo Challenge Sled Dog Race cancelled

Unforeseen circumstances postpone mushing race to 2018

The 2017 Cariboo Challenge Jack Gawthorn Memorial Sled Dog Race, which was scheduled for Jan. 20-22, will be cancelled due to a number of different issues according to Race committee vice-president Len Doucette.

“What was going on and how things were going forward, we weren’t going to be able to hold a very good race, so we decided to hold it off,” he said.

The cancellations extend to the Winter Carnival as well.

“We don’t want to hold an event that’s not up to our standard. We wanted to do it properly and make sure the event next year is top notch.”

According to Doucette, registered mushers have been informed by email and were very understanding of the cancellation.
