Former 108 Mile resident Gabe Bergen looking for a seat in the Olympics

Rowing Canada Aviron has announced its team for the 2012 Samsung World Rowing Cup in Lucerne, Switzerland, May 25-27, and former 108 Mile Ranch resident Gabe Bergen is on the list.

Bergen, out of the University of Victoria, will row with the Men's Eight 8-plus crew.

The team includes Brian Price (Belleville, Ont.), Will Crothers (Kingston, Ont.), Jeremiah Brown (Cobourg, Ont.), Andrew Byrnes (Toronto, Ont.), Malcolm Howard (Victoria), Conlin McCabe (Brockville, Ont.), Rob Gibson (Kingston), and Doug Csima (Oakville, Ont.).

“We have gone through a rigorous selection process and I’m very excited to see what this team can do on the world stage in Lucerne later this month,” says Peter Cookson, Rowing Canada Aviron high performance director.

All crews have qualified for the 2012 Olympics, with the exception of the women's pair, which will compete at the final qualifier in Lucerne from May 20-23.

Rowing Canada Aviron has not yet nominated its Olympic athletes, and will do so in June.
