Golf was the main course at the 108 Men's Golf Club Breakfast Open at the 108 Golf Resort on May 29.
Served with a side of sunshine, the 18-hole event was the club's official icebreaker tournament of the season and the start of match play for members.
Some 38 men competed in the tournament, in contrast to other years when registration was closer to 60.
Men's club member Bob Wieduwilt says it's likely that lower numbers had something to do with the weather. Although it was brilliantly sunny and warm on Sunday, the previous weeks had been dominated by cold and rain.
He adds the wet weather had been keeping some golfers away from weekly men's night play, but the rain did wonders for the golf course.
"The grass is really starting to take off now and they're in the process of planting some 200-plus trees. It makes the course more challenging and really beautifies it."
He adds some of the trees measure close to eight metres in height.
Results from the Breakfast Open saw Shane Wilkie the low-gross winner in the first flight, followed by Guy Erickson in second place and Bill Harris third.
The low-net winner in that flight was Tony Morete, with Bob Garrow second and John McNeil third.
Second flight low-gross winner was Bill Baerg, followed by Dean McNeil and Colin Wormleaton.
Mark Larson won low net, with Jamie Crellin second and Irv Hannah third.
Wieduwilt led the pack in third-flight low-gross competition. Dan Hadden was second and Steve Randell was third.
Low net went to Ron Thurston, followed by James Clancy and Herm Dutchak.
In net skins competition, Erickson was the winner with eight skins and Mark Larson was a close second with six. Dean McNeil was third with one skin.
