Heather Matsuda delicately lifted her ball out of the sand trap and onto the green during the Ladies Golf Club's Ice Breaker tournament at the 108 Resort Golf Course on May 6.

The 108 Ladies Golf Club's first tournament of the season was a huge success under sunny skies but with temperatures that were cooled by windy conditions, May 6.

Club vice-captain Gloria Corno says the Ice Breaker at the 108 Resort Golf Course, which was open to members and non-members, set an attendance record, with 39 ladies in attendance.

Club member Annie McKave introduced a lotto draw format, which resulted in a fun team tourney, to the participants prior to the 10 a.m. tee-off on May 6.

When the last foursome completed the nine-hole tournament, there was a three-way tie for first place.

The winning teams included Kim Giesbrecht, Shirley Garrow, Sharon Claassen and Sharlene Anderson; Lorraine McCaffrey, Lyn Smeds, and Lynda Lewis; and Susan Skidmore, Gloria Corno, Carol Lidstone and Clara Koehn.

There were a number of individual prizes handed out at the end of the day.

Pam Dutchak sank the longest putt on No. 7 hole.

Pauline Weigelt was the closest to the line for players age 65 and older.

Judy Scarrow was closest to the line for the competitors age 65 and younger.

Kim Giesbrecht was the closest to the pin (KP) on No. 4 hole for players age 65 and younger.

Eileen King took the KP on No. 4 hole for golfers age 65 and older.

Pam Dutchak won the KP on No. 8 hole with her second shot for players age 65 and older.

Giesbrecht grabbed the KP on No. 8 hole with second shot for players age 65 and younger to score a birdie.

There were eight door prizes given out and club captain Lorraine McCaffrey says they had a great time. “The best news was it didn’t rain.”

The 108 Ladies Days are on Tuesdays, with three start times of 10 a.m. and 1 and 5 p.m.
