The 100 Mile House Wranglers of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) has acquired a new goalie, Jasyen MacLean.

“The reason we picked up Jaysen is our starter [Jakob] Severson has not fully recovered from the injury he picked up before Christmas. [Hayden] Lyons has been playing good but he’s quite a passionate guy and last game he took a match penalty, so he’s going to be suspended for three games,” said head coach Dale Hladun.

MacLean previously played with the Creston Valley Thunder Cats, also of the KIJHL, where he appeared in 13 games before being released.

Hladun said MacLean doesn’t have a big resume but has been impressed with what he’s seen MacLean do during practice since joining the team.

“He’s a big kid, he’s got a solid style,” said Hladun.

MacLean, who describes himself as a hybrid goalie is excited about joining the team even if the Wranglers only have ten games left.

“I know they’re striving to make a real strong playoff push and I’m really excited to be a part of it,” said MacLean.

Starting hockey when he was five, the goalie has modelled himself after Vancouver Canucks goalie Jakob Markstrom, whom MacLean says had to work hard to get where he is.

“If I can mark myself after a big guy, I think I can be very successful,” he said.
