The weather is getting chillier and the ice at the South Cariboo Arena has already been installed, but the change in weather doesn’t mean it’s just time for hockey season.
“We have a lot of things going on this year,” said 100 Mile House Curling Club president Gordon Smith. “This winter, we’re hosting the Blind Curling Provincials Championships on Jan. 19. As well as the blind curling provincials, we are also hosting the Zone 6 Senior Men’s and Lady’s playdowns. We’re also holding an Optimist junior curling camp and the date for that isn’t set yet.”

The registration date for the club’s leagues is also nearing. The date is Sept. 27 at the club’s rink beside the South Cariboo Arena and runs from 4 to 7 p.m. Registration for the men’s, junior, ladies, mixed and mixed doubles will be available.
The mixed doubles is a new entry this year and will be on either Fridays or Sundays but Smith said they still don’t have a definite time set just yet.
Three bonspiels will also be hosted by the club, starting with the Ladies Bonspiel on Nov. 19.
Monday night and Wednesday afternoon drop-in sessions are also available for $5 a session.
For those still on the fence about trying out curling, Smith said all ages are welcome.
“It’s a very social event,” he said. “After we curl, we usually go upstairs and visit in the lounge. It’s a very social club and it’s open to all ages. We have curlers from probably eight to 80 almost.”
The aforementioned Optimist junior camp is also designed for curlers aged 10-12 who may have only curled once or twice or not all.
