Spring Carnival fundraises for new playground

'Last ditch effort' to raise funds for new elementary school playground

The 100 Mile House Elementary School Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) is inviting the public to a Spring Carnival to help raise funds for a new playground on May 23.

It's open from 4 to 6 p.m., rain or shine outside 100 Mile House Elementary School, and will see a variety of games, food and a silent auction.

The group is $5,000 short on purchasing a new piece of playground equipment to replace an existing equipment slated for removal in the near future.

“They've been saying they're going to remove it for a couple years now,” explains Denise Balbirnie, a spokesperson for the PAC.

“We've been trying to save up for a playground. This is the spring they're going to take it all out. This is our last ditch effort to try to raise some funds to replace the playground.”

She says the carnival will hopefully go a long way in helping them raise some much needed funds to replace the playground, which is used by many families in the community.

“It's important to note the playground isn't just our school playground. Everybody in the community uses it.

"The elementary school is so central it's used by members of the community during summer holidays and after school and weekends.

"You always see kids out on the playground. Some of the local day-cares go there during school hours.”

Games include minute-to-win-it, duck races, wheel of fortune, fish pond, toilet paper toss, and more. Hotdogs, cotton candy, popsicles and ice cream will be on sale.

“It's a pretty important playground,” Balbirnie adds.

“It would be pretty devastating if we lost it and didn't have anything to replace it with.”
