Special meeting for those new to vision loss

White Cane Club offers social and recreational support

The local White Cane Club Chapter of the Canadian Council (CCB) is hosting an informal gathering at the 100 Mile House United Church (49 Dogwood Ave.) today (Sept. 22) at 1 p.m. for anyone who may be new to vision loss.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

Many people who are newly diagnosed with vision loss are often devastated to find that familiar activities suddenly present new challenges, says CCB National First Vice-president Lori

Fry.

"Child-care, travelling, reading and even work can suddenly seem impossible, while relationships become strained."

Without assistance in adjusting to vision loss, many people may become isolated and fearful, particularly seniors, she adds.

The White Cane Club is a social and recreational support group of vision impaired, blind and sighted affiliated members and has been operating in 100 Mile House for nearly 26 years.

For information, contact the CCB chapter president Marilyn Vinson at 250-396-4070 or Lori at 250-395-2452.
