Judy and David Simkins have donated funds to the 100 Mile District Palliative Hospice Care Society over the years and therewas a little bit of money left over from what they’ve donated, Hospice Society program director Tracy Haddow says, addingthe leftover funds have helped purchase a new sleeper chair.

“The chair helps provide the comfort and connectedness of the families and the patients who are in the palliative care suite. This chair allows them to sit comfortably beside the patient, hold their hand, but it also allows a family member to pull rightbeside the bed and lay down and have a rest and sleep right beside them if that’s what they choose to do.”

Haddow adds the staff is very happy with the sleeper chair that meets all of the medical standards because it’s an easy-cleanchair and it has casters on it, which allows them to move the chair out of the way to manage patient care when it’s needed.

On Jan. 24 when the Simkins checked out the chair, they thought the sleeper chair was fantastic.

“Whatever was needed for the Hospice Society, we wanted to be able to help.

“We would like to take this opportunity to pledge another $5,000 towards the 100 Mile District Hospice Palliative CareSociety.”

Haddow says it was wonderful news.
