Resources, information for families available at parents' fingertips

Early Years Centre South Cariboo App provide information to parents

The South Cariboo Early Years Centre (SCEYC) App is now live and available at no charge to parents, service providers and the public – go to Google Play for download on Android mobile devices.

The Early Years App gives busy parents access to information and resources from the SCEYC through use of their mobile device, says Erica Henderson, SCEYC co-ordinator.

Many of the resources and answers parents are seeking are available online through the App, she adds. Information includes medical advice from Health Link BC to “baby manuals for Dad.” It also provides parents access to these resources with a tap of a finger.

The App also includes the monthly SCEYC Event Calendar, which lists many upcoming activities in the community for parents and young children, Henderson explains.

We know parents are busy. We are excited to be offering the Early Years App to help parents in the South Cariboo.

We hope they will find the App to be a simple, useful device that they will check daily for parenting information and resources and information on special events and fun activities.”

The SCEYC also looks forward to hearing feedback from parents on what is helpful and what they would like to see in Phase 2 of the App, says Cariboo Family Enrichment Centre (CFEC) executive director Lisa De Paoli.

We welcome parents to come visit Erica and the South Cariboo Early Years Centre located at the Cariboo Family Enrichment Centre at 486 Birch Ave. in 100 Mile House.”

The SCEYC is one of the first 12 Early Years Centres funded through the Provincial Office for the Early Years. The SCEYC opened in October 2014 and is hosted by the CFEC.

The centre provides one convenient location to connect parents and families to early learning and health and family services to ensure your child gets the best start in life, says Henderson.

Services include early childhood screening, referrals to early intervention professionals, social services, public health and school-based programs, and parent/child drop-in open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Through the CFEC, parents and families can access Child Care Resource and Referral, parenting education sessions, family services and counselling, De Paoli explains.

Launched in January 2014, the Provincial Office for the Early Years is the foundation of the BC Early Years Strategy.

The Early Years Strategy is an eight-year government commitment to improve accessibility, affordability and quality of early years programs and services for families with young children.
