The youngest students from the David Stoddart School take a moment to conquer Mt. Crumpet before sliding back down the other side.

The 99 Mile Nordic Centre hosted approximately 60 students from Clinton's David Stoddard School beneath bluebird skies on Feb. 22.

With 20 volunteers and 15 school staff, along with regular daily member skiers, the site resembled a winter festival.

Students rotated through three activities: x-country skiing, snowshoeing and a 'Winter Warrior' session based at the Stormriders' firepit and the Mt. Crumpet snow pile.

"Our kids had a blast. They are still talking about it this morning and lots of them are encouraging their parents to go buy ski equipment and to go to the 99 Mile Nordic Centre because skiing and snowshoeing are awesome," the school messaged the day after the event.

The club was concerned whether they could accommodate such a large group, especially during the week when many of the volunteers are at work but they stepped up in a big way. The band of retired volunteers assisted with everything from setting up to rentals, to coaching and leading games and tours.

100 Mile Nordics has been steadily building its inventory of quality ski sets and snowshoes.

Once again, dedicated volunteers have been working hard to acquire grants to purchase more rentals (as well as others to enhance trails, grooming equipment and infrastructure.)

They would like to send out a big thank you to the Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School and Eliza Archie Memorial Schools for lending them extra equipment to outfit this large group.

They also would like to thank the District of 100 Mile Public works crew for building the Mt. Crumpet Snow-pile (and then rebuilding it after the big meltdown!)

The pile was swarming with brightly coloured little Winter Warriors! They appreciate the excellent job that the crew does of maintaining the road and parking lot.

There are days when the parking lot looks like they're hosting a marathon and that is just with skiers from our area!

The site maintains some of the best conditions in the province because of the location and the dedicated grooming team.

The Lodge is open daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Check out what they have to offer!
