Literacy fundraiser moved

Newspapers by donation Jan. 26 at 100 Mile Free Press office

The Reach a Reader newspaper sales by donation event Jan. 26, previously slated to be held at Tim Hortons, has been moved to the 100 Mile Free Press office at #3-536 Horse Lake Road.

Cariboo Chilcotin Partners for Literacy (CCPL) representative Melody Newcombe explains there just weren't enough volunteers to hold the event at the usual location.

Previous years have seen free newspapers donated by the Free Press sold at Tim Hortons by donation on Reach a Reader day.

As soon as Free Press publisher Martina Dopf heard this annual Literacy Week fundraiser was in jeopardy of cancellation, she stepped up to ensure the event took place.

"We didn't want these donations for our community's important literacy programs to end, so all our papers sold directly through our front office on Jan. 26 will be 100 per cent by donation to CCPL."

However, this year, the only way you can support this literacy program fundraiser is by stopping by the Free Press with your spare change on Reach a Reader day, and picking up the newspaper by donation from its front office staff.
