Equipment failure source of power outage

10,336 customers lost power in 100 Mile House area

Thousands of South Cariboo residents were without power for close to two hours because of equipment failure at a main substation on Jan. 26.

According to a BC Hydro spokesperson, a piece of equipment failed within the 100 Mile House substation at 2:57 p.m., taking down five feeders out of the station.

A total of 10,336 customers were impacted from the Lac la Hache area to areas south of 100 Mile House.

All five of the feeders were repaired and power was restored to all the customers affected between 4:34 p.m. and 4:56 p.m.
