To the editor:
The taxpayer in British Columbia is assaulted daily by new revelations about government misconduct, misrepresentation and insults.
The opposition parties are not much different, not having any position on important matters and having “forgetful moments” to do what they said they wouldn’t do.
It’s no wonder people are exasperated. Is your government out of control?
BC First has a positive agenda. To make government more directly accountable, we would advance the technology for electronic voting.
This is not just for reducing election costs, but it would provide a simple method of getting direct public input. Other Parties don’t want it, but we do.
Yes, we support recall because if your employee, the MLA, is just not representing you then fire him or her.
Any referendum or initiative can be put on a list for decisions from the voter. Examples might include the Site C dam, Northern Gateway Pipeline, smart meters, re-investigation of the sale of BC Rail, any new tax suggestion, and toll bridges and highways. These are just a few things to have the voter speak to.
In the case of these referendums, BC First would publish the results for all to see. We would then issue a statement on the results and any action we felt we needed to take from the voters’ desires.
I know that seems very simple and very easy to do. It has another name – democracy.
BC First is not afraid of the voters, as it seems others are. We welcome it.
For any who may attempt to dissuade such a policy and cite cost, all we can say is “What price democracy?”
Change your government, improve our economy, and raise your families in a safe and stable society.
